Waikato Regional Council embraces digital future to sustainably manage natural resources

Waikato Regional Council (WRC), a New Zealand regional government responsible for managing natural resources across a large and diverse area, faced mounting challenges from outdated document and records systems. The council needed a more user-friendly, secure and mobile-friendly information management solution to handle high volumes of planning documents, technical reports and public records while maintaining retention and disposal requirements and supporting collaborative work with contractors.

WRC partnered with OpenText Professional Services to implement OpenText Content Suite and OpenText Core Share, using Connected Workspaces, templates, co‑authoring and embedded records governance to streamline workflows and secure external collaboration. The rollout gave 600+ users faster search and sharing, concurrent editing, clear audit trails and applied retention/disposal consistently—resulting in quicker, data-informed decisions, reduced workaround behavior and greater confidence in security and compliance.
