A OpenText Case Study
Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, PA — the sole hospital in its rural county serving over 50,000 patients a year — struggled with slow, paper-based medical records stored in a crowded 200-square-foot room. Clinicians and records staff spent excessive time locating charts, compliance with 30-day completion and seven-year retention rules was difficult, and staff had to add hours and a position to cope; proving fax delivery for legal purposes also required manual, time-consuming work.
Tyler implemented OpenText Document Server (Alchemy Edition) with the OpenText RightFax integration and the Document Server Records Manager module to automate archival, retrieval and fax tracking. Within months the hospital halved records retrieval time, saved about $22,000 (roughly a full-time position), improved productivity, reduced storage and supply costs, lowered liability risk, enabled remote coder access and set the stage to extend the solution to HR and other departments.
