Two Micro Focus Reflection products help CANNEX Financial Exchanges offer secure web access to real-time financial information

CANNEX Financial Exchanges, a Toronto-based provider of consolidated product and service data for financial institutions and brokers, needed to securely deliver real-time information from its HP e3000–hosted CANNEX System to clients over the Internet. As more customers moved away from slow, insecure modem connections, CANNEX faced the challenge of protecting host-initiated file transfers and web access without disrupting workflows or adding complex hardware.

CANNEX retained Micro Focus Reflection (thick client) and Reflection for the Web, adding SSL/TLS, RSA authentication, an SSL proxy server and digitally signed tokens tied to LDAP for authorization; web applets connect directly to the host through the proxy over a single open port (443). The upgrade required no new hardware, took about 20 hours to integrate, and delivered stronger encryption and simplified firewall management—prompting immediate positive feedback from clients and reduced deployment headaches.
