The Telenor Group standardizes and optimizes backup environment at Hungary unit with Data Protector and Backup Navigator

Telenor Group’s Telenor Hungary unit faced the challenge of consolidating and optimizing a fragmented backup environment while improving performance, reducing costs, and supporting compliance needs. In 2016, it turned to OpenText backup solutions, including Data Protector and Backup Navigator, to replace multiple legacy tools and better manage backup and recovery across different systems.

OpenText implemented a new disk-first backup architecture using StoreOnce 6500, kept tape for archival storage, and worked with Telenor Hungary to test, tune, and roll out the system. The results included faster incident detection and response, backup management in about 15 minutes, SQL Server backups 20% faster, Exchange backups 10% faster, and file system backup/recovery 20% faster, while also lowering storage and support costs through deduplication and a unified platform.
