Preview of the Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit Case Study

The Health Unit supports 24-hour public health services, so when it wanted to virtualize its server landscape, it needed to make the transition without impacting service delivery

Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit provides public-health services to about 150,000 people and operates 24/7 critical systems for clinics, inspections and lab work. Facing a mixed landscape of 40 Windows and Linux physical and virtual servers, the Health Unit needed to move to a fully virtual environment without interrupting service delivery or risking lengthy rebuilds from hardware failures.

Using OpenText PlateSpin Migrate, the team performed staged, block-level replications and point-in-time copies that supported both OS types and allowed final cutover with only a few minutes offline per server. The project migrated all 40 servers in three weeks, incurred just two to three minutes of downtime per server, produced zero helpdesk complaints, and completed the infrastructure transformation with no impact on staff or the public.
