Serit Skagerak is a Norwegian IT provider that hosts clients’ virtualized services—including backups, virtual desktops, spam filtering and telephony—on a large fleet of VMs. The company found its previous backup approaches (commercial tools and custom scripts) were costly, unreliable and labor‑intensive: VMware Go failed at scale, scripts required manual creation and testing for each server, and there was no automated reporting of backup success.

Serit Skagerak replaced those solutions with Micro Focus VM Explorer to protect more than 120 production VMs (terminal servers, databases, domain controllers and more) and Hyper‑V test VMs. The result: scheduled backups in seconds, restores in minutes (sometimes as fast as six minutes), automated status reports, weekly hours saved for staff, no data loss across six real restores, better customer satisfaction, and lower overall cost.
