ELO Digital Office GmbH, a leading German document- and content-management software provider, faced an onslaught of spam after acquiring the elo.com domain. With more than 200 mailboxes and hundreds of thousands (peaking over a million) Exchange hits per month, spam clogged inboxes, consumed backup and storage resources, and hurt user productivity—traditional mailbox-focused anti-spam tools weren’t effective for this volume.
ELO implemented Micro Focus Secure Messaging Gateway as a perimeter-filtering virtual appliance that scans mail asynchronously across servers. The solution blocks about 85% of Exchange traffic as spam before it enters the system, keeps false positives low via continuous signature updates, stops virus spam, and integrated without extra hardware—delivering sustained productivity gains, reduced backup/storage pressure, and reliable spam control for over a decade.
