Return to ACUCOBOL leads to tenfold performance improvement for ERP System

Rainer Obermeit Planungs- und Datentechnik develops OfficeReady, an ERP system for import/export businesses used by more than 40 companies worldwide. After moving off ACUCOBOL‑GT to a different COBOL platform, Obermeit experienced severe stability and performance problems—up to 10 daily outages, dramatic slowdowns, and at least €500,000 in losses—which prevented new sales and threatened customer satisfaction.

In early 2014 Obermeit reinstated ACUCOBOL‑GT after three months of comparative testing and migrated customers with minimal disruption. The result was markedly better performance (including up to tenfold gains on large datasets), instant program startup, elimination of system failures, and improved development and debugging tools—restoring availability, customer confidence and the ability to grow sales.
