A OpenText Case Study
The City of Inglewood, a Los Angeles gateway with about 116,000 residents, faced a critical challenge: its mission‑critical Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for 911 operations ran on an aging mainframe that was becoming difficult to maintain. Replacing it with commercial software would sacrifice years of custom intelligence and cost over $2M, and an attempted .NET conversion proved too unreliable for the system’s required 99.99% availability.
Micro Focus re‑hosted the entire CAD application from DOS/VSE to Micro Focus Enterprise Server on Windows, operating on separate production and development Windows servers and serving roughly 50 terminals and in‑car displays. The move preserved the custom functionality and 99.99% uptime, enabled minimal ongoing development via Enterprise Developer, and saved the city more than $120K per year in maintenance.
