Provincial Government Blazes Path to Information Assurance

The New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages large volumes of regulated documentation related to land, wildlife and resource management and faced growing demands to keep information timely, secure and fully compliant with provincial laws and the Government Information Systems Security Policy (GISSP). Its legacy electronic information management system no longer met evolving needs for access control, records management and information governance across the department’s 550 staff.

Working with CMS Consulting and OpenText, DNR migrated from eDOCS to the OpenText Content Suite Platform, consolidating content into a secure central repository, cleaning and migrating over 10,000 documents (2 TB), and delivering bilingual training and support. The result was complete GISSP compliance, faster document discovery and control, a 65% reduction in stored electronic documents through de-duplication, and a 69% user adoption rate—improving transparency, efficiency and information assurance.
