A OpenText Case Study
Pflugerville Independent School District, a fast‑growing K‑12 district in Texas, needed to migrate from aging tape‑based backups and legacy SAN/server hardware to a new SAN and virtual server environment. Their tape libraries were out of warranty and unreliable, backup windows were insufficient for growing data volumes, and the district required disaster recovery and an email archiving solution that met compliance and open‑records needs without taking up significant rack space.
The district deployed SEP sesam on a compact SUSE Linux server and added GroupWise Disaster Recovery plus Retain Unified Archiving for nightly email backup and archiving. The new setup delivered immediate, reliable backups and fast restores, completed some 30 full jobs of over 5 TB within the backup window, reduced mailbox sizes by offloading archived mail, streamlined public‑records retrieval, and cut service‑desk calls—enabling a confident migration to the new SAN and server environment.
