Bumble Bee Foods, North America’s largest branded shelf‑stable seafood company, faced a costly, paper‑based procure‑to‑pay process: invoices took about 20 days to process, cost roughly $5.80 each (well above industry average), and AP was decentralized across multiple plants with staff spending much of their time searching for lost invoices. The company needed to standardize and automate workflows, improve visibility, and reduce operating costs.
Working with Optima Consulting, Bumble Bee implemented OpenText solutions integrated with its SAP ERP—Vendor Invoice Management, Invoice Capture Center (OCR), and Document Access—to automate capture, routing and archival. Within 16 months they went 100% paperless, cut invoice processing costs by over 50%, reduced AP headcount from 13 to 5 and consolidated global processing centers from six to two, while increasing vendor discount capture by 80% and improving month‑end close and supplier visibility.
