The Pension Protection Fund (PPF) safeguards members of eligible defined benefit pension schemes when employers become insolvent, but its complex scheme assessment process was taking three to four years and relied on inconsistent, manual case management, spreadsheets and locally stored documents. To meet a target of completing assessments within two years, PPF needed better process consistency, centralised document handling and improved reporting.
Working with OpenText, PPF implemented OpenText MBPM in phased rollouts, integrated SharePoint document storage, an email capture listener and a web portal, and migrated over 500 existing cases into a standardized workflow. The result was faster, more consistent case processing, on-demand management reporting, lower operating costs and the ability to adapt quickly to regulatory changes—contributing to assessment times falling within the two-year target.
