A OpenText Case Study
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), one of the largest investor-owned energy utilities serving about 14 million people in California, faced a growing Human Resources burden from paper-based personnel and medical files. Physical transfers between offices were costly and slow, and paper records created risks of loss, misplacement, and unauthorized access—so PG&E needed a solution that reduced paper, protected confidentiality, and leveraged its existing SAP investment.
PG&E implemented OpenText ECM Suite for SAP Solutions, converting some 250,000 documents and creating electronic employee folders linked to SAP (using a fax gateway for intake and SAP security to control access). The move, combined with process changes that cut maintained document types by 85%, greatly reduced filing, searching, and storage time, freed HR staff for consulting work, and improved record accessibility and data protection.
