Novelis preserves data and saves money with OpenText

Novelis, a global leader in aluminum rolled products and recycling with about 11,000 employees and $9.6 billion in FY2017 revenue, faced rapidly rising eDiscovery costs and strict internal requirements to preserve electronic data and metadata for departing employees. Service provider fees on one large matter exceeded $1 million, so the general counsel moved to bring eDiscovery in-house to control costs and meet compliance needs.

Novelis implemented OpenText EnCase eDiscovery and invested in training (EnCEP certification) to build a defensible, repeatable process for forensic data collection and preservation. Within nine months the company saved more than $1.5 million in service provider fees, enabled compliant file storage and metadata preservation, and improved team knowledge and process alignment while reducing reliance on outside providers.
