Case Study: NCDEX achieves greater analytics self-service and lower costs with OpenText Vertica

NCDEX chose OpenText Vertica as the platform for its data analytics environment—significantly reducing TCO, increasing performance, and giving users easier access to their data

NCDEX wanted to give business users faster, more flexible access to financial analysis, modeling, and reporting, but its Oracle environment made them dependent on scarce and expensive technical SMEs. The company also faced high licensing and infrastructure costs, plus a restrictive setup that prevented users from directly slicing and dicing data or quickly changing reports as business conditions shifted.

Working with KPMG, NCDEX implemented OpenText Vertica on commodity hardware in a virtualized configuration, migrating all existing processes and later moving reporting to Microsoft Power BI. OpenText helped NCDEX cut annual database licensing fees by 96.6% and reduce infrastructure costs by 27.8%, while batch data loading time improved from three hours to two. The business also saw an average 77% monthly drop in data requests, showing users could analyze data on their own and freeing technical teams for higher-value work.
