Fidelity Information Services, a leading provider of technology and processing services for the financial sector, needed to modernize Corebank — its large, mainframe-based core banking solution — so geographically dispersed development teams (London, Copenhagen, Bangkok, Bangalore) could work more productively. Developing and testing on the mainframe was time-consuming, costly and created a dependence on continuous mainframe access that slowed delivery and risked a single point of failure.
Fidelity adopted Micro Focus tools (Mainframe Express Enterprise Edition, Revolve and Enterprise Developer) to decentralize development, enabling local analysis, compilation, debugging and unit testing with integrated source control and multithreaded collaboration. The modernization let teams work independently from workstations, accelerated development and maintenance, reduced costs and risk, improved QA and sales enablement (Corebank can now run demos from a laptop), and added support for modern Enterprise COBOL features.
