A OpenText Case Study
The Minnesota Department of Revenue, which administers more than 30 taxes and collects over $20 billion annually, faced growing inefficiencies from paper-heavy, highly complex business tax returns (often 100+ pages) and a legacy check‑processing workflow that required manual classification, data entry and next‑day bank deposits. These manual processes created backlogs, increased error risk and delayed funds availability.
Working with Information Capture Solutions, Revenue deployed OpenText Captiva Capture and Captiva Advanced Recognition with high‑speed scanners and an integrated Deposit21 Check‑21 module, defining 800+ document types and automated business‑rule routing. The result: automated classification and data extraction with about 90% front‑end accuracy, same‑day deposits for most checks, elimination of courier costs, a reduction in deposit time by at least 40% (and processing peaks up to 75,700 checks/day), and a simpler, faster end‑to‑end workflow.
