Continental AG, a global German automotive and rubber group with 178,000 employees, needed to standardize IT across two-tiered local and corporate teams to move faster on strategic opportunities. The company faced difficulty rolling out service-oriented best practices and achieving transparency of software and infrastructure relationships across dozens of locations, so it launched a global configuration management initiative to create a single, consistent view of IT assets and dependencies.
Continental implemented Micro Focus Universal CMDB (integrated with its existing Service and Asset Manager) with support from partner Materna, prototyping on three critical applications before a global rollout completed in mid‑2013. The CMDB delivered a federated, single source of truth, enabled automated modeling of relationships, improved risk and change impact assessments, and strengthened incident/change management—resulting in better visibility of service assets and increased business demand for IT-as-a-service.
