Sauter Group, a leading building automation provider with about 2,400 employees and €400M in revenue, faced fragmented IT after autonomous subsidiaries adopted different stacks: Microsoft at HQ in Basel and Micro Focus OES in Freiburg. Users needed VPN access and separate credentials for applications on both systems, and leadership decided to centralize IT to improve access, reduce complexity, and cut costs.
Sauter standardized on Micro Focus OES with Domain Services for Windows (DSfW) to bridge eDirectory and Active Directory, engaged Micro Focus Professional Services for integration, and deployed ZENworks for unified configuration and patch management, Filr for file services, iPrint for printing, and OpenProject to replace costly Microsoft Project licenses. The consolidated, centrally managed environment now supports 2,400 users across 100+ locations, halving network and system administration resources (50% cost savings), reducing license costs, improving reliability, and delivering seamless access with no business interruption.
