A OpenText Case Study
BSQ Bauspar AG, a German retail banking and housing finance provider, faced a costly, inflexible mainframe environment and an aging development team whose institutional knowledge risked disappearing. With nearly 3,000 programs (5.5M LOC) and a much larger expanded codebase, BSQ needed a low‑risk, phased modernization to cut costs, preserve know‑how and keep business continuity.
Working with Micro Focus and implementation partners, BSQ used a three‑phase approach—stabilization (migrating workloads with Enterprise Developer and Enterprise Server, CI and backup), consolidation (Enterprise Analyzer uncovered and removed 50% redundant code and introduced a data‑warehouse/document management) and modernization (separating COBOL business logic from a Java presentation layer and enabling Docker packaging). The project delivered ~80% operational cost savings, a streamlined application landscape, higher developer productivity, reduced risk and an open, commercializable platform.
