A OpenText Case Study
A major global insurer with more than 15,000 employees underwriting over $8 billion in premiums faced a bottleneck: eight diverse IT test environments (mainframe, Windows, DB2/Oracle/SQL) each costing $3M annually, and demand for new IT projects had trebled in three years. Mainframe capacity couldn’t scale to meet mobile, web and acquisition-driven requirements, leaving insufficient test/dev capacity and long provisioning times that slowed releases.
The insurer moved to AWS and a low‑cost automated Micro Focus DevOps toolchain (Enterprise Test Server, Developer for z, Sync, Analyzer), creating 35 virtual mainframe test environments and automated build/release pipelines. Provisioning fell from six weeks to two hours, annual environment costs dropped from $3,000,000 to $120,000, testing time was halved, and the number of major releases per year tripled—delivering faster time to market, higher quality, and scalable, cost‑effective capacity.
