Micro Focus Database Connectors* provides a simple, secure, and seamless move to RDBMS architecture

Systems & Software, a leading North American utilities software provider whose enQuesta platform runs on decades-old Micro Focus COBOL, needed to move from COBOL data files to a modern RDBMS to improve reliability, reporting, and customer uptime. Manually converting large, complex COBOL applications to SQL was projected to take years and risked unacceptable disruption to mission‑critical systems.

They implemented Micro Focus Database Connectors (with Server Express), which automatically translates COBOL file I/O into SQL, requiring only minor copybook updates and a few lock handling tweaks. The result was faster RDBMS adoption with minimal rework, improved resilience and faster recovery using Oracle point‑in‑time recovery, shorter batch windows, and far easier reporting (via IBM Cognos, JasperReports, etc.), while enabling support for Oracle and SQL Server and accelerating new-business bids.
