Systems & Software, a leading North American utilities software provider whose enQuesta platform runs on decades-old Micro Focus COBOL, needed to move from COBOL data files to a modern RDBMS to improve reliability, reporting, and customer uptime. Manually converting large, complex COBOL applications to SQL was projected to take years and risked unacceptable disruption to mission‑critical systems.

They implemented Micro Focus Database Connectors (with Server Express), which automatically translates COBOL file I/O into SQL, requiring only minor copybook updates and a few lock handling tweaks.
