A OpenText Case Study
Canopius, a global specialty (re)insurer and one of the top 10 firms in the Lloyd’s market, faced a growing problem with unstructured data—everything from PDFs and spreadsheets to photos and videos—compounded by an industry “hoarding” mentality and new data-privacy legislation. Realizing that unindexed, excess data increased storage needs and regulatory risk, the company needed a way to discover, cleanse, classify and migrate unstructured content across its environment.
Canopius ran a business-led information governance program with Oyster IMS and deployed Micro Focus ControlPoint (with the IDOL engine) to index content, apply business rules, tag and archive or delete files, and streamline e-disclosure and GDPR requests. The initiative deleted more than 4.3 million files, cut storage costs, boosted efficiency (collating 2.5 TB of litigation data in a morning), sped up subject-access and erasure requests, and strengthened overall compliance and risk posture.
