Preview of the Major Federal Agency Case Study

Major federal agency validates Micro Focus security investment

Micro Focus worked with a major U.S. federal agency that relied on a shared mainframe supporting nearly 20 mission‑critical applications and 40,000 daily users. After high‑profile breaches and a government 30‑day cybersecurity sprint, the agency needed to replace an aging, noncompliant terminal emulator, meet HSPD‑12 and FIPS/TLS requirements, enforce multifactor authentication, and accommodate constraints around mainframe data encryption and continuous monitoring.

Micro Focus delivered its Reflection product family to leverage the agency’s Active Directory and PKI, using PIV smart‑card X.509 certificates and a JITC‑certified reverse security proxy to enforce multifactor authentication, TLS encryption, and content inspection. The solution enabled seamless passwordless single sign‑on to the mainframe, met HSPD‑12 and continuous‑monitoring requirements, reused existing infrastructure, and paved the way for a Java‑free, centrally managed identity approach across the agency.
