Preview of the Exelon Case Study

Major energy provider saving millions of dollars by using Micro Focus® software to track configuration of 10,000 servers

Exelon, a Fortune 150 energy provider serving more than 7.8 million customers with over 30,000 employees, needed to improve how it managed configuration for more than 10,000 servers to reduce costs and improve service quality. The IT team sought a single, accurate source of configuration data to integrate with ITSM processes and lower chargebacks to business units.

Working with Whitlock, Exelon deployed Micro Focus Universal CMDB along with Universal Discovery, NNMi, Asset Manager, PPM and OMi to centralize configuration management. The solution reduced discrepancies between recorded and actual resources (projected $2 million savings over three years), identified 800 improperly billed servers, removed 1,000 retired servers, improved topology and change management, and enabled application teams to perform their own troubleshooting.
