Large educational institution automates and streamlines backup and recovery by moving to the cloud.

Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST), which supports thousands of students and faculty, faced recurring data-loss problems because many staff stored files only on personal machines and campus servers lacked capacity. Hard-drive failures and slow, costly recoveries prompted the IT team to find a more flexible, easy-to-administer, and cost-effective backup solution for about 130 faculty computers.

CAST piloted and rolled out Micro Focus Connected MX, deploying it with SCCM to provide cloud backups, file syncing, and self-service restores across up to five devices per user. The move cut backup costs by about 12%, expanded coverage to roughly 200 devices, eliminated additional storage hardware, reduced IT recovery workload, ensured continuous protection and retention for compliance, and supported straightforward international backups.
