A OpenText Case Study
Karl-Franzens University of Graz, a historic institution with more than 30,000 students, faced a growing challenge: the internet’s abundance of questionable sources and rising cases of (intentional or accidental) plagiarism were increasing the workload and threatening the quality and reputation of its assessment process for roughly 2,000 theses a year. The university needed an IT-driven way to speed checks, ensure consistent quality, and safeguard academic standards.
Using its existing OpenText ECM stack (Content Server, Workflow, Web Content Management and related tools) KFU built an automated, end-to‑end submission, plagiarism‑check and archiving workflow that integrates third‑party services and multiple systems without extra user training. The result: transparent, standardized assessments, much lower assessor effort, reliable deadlines, over 7,000 theses processed with no delays, and recognition with an ECM Award—delivering fair examinations and assured academic quality.
