Hiscox Underwriting Group Services Ltd., an international specialist insurer operating across Lloyd’s and retail markets, faced escalating costs and operational risk from growing volumes of paper, fax and email correspondence. Manual filing and early electronic systems led to delays, misfiled or lost documents, limited process automation, and challenges meeting long‑term record‑keeping and security requirements.
Hiscox replaced its legacy solution with the OpenText ECM Suite in 2007, tightly integrating email, Microsoft Office, fax capture and underwriting workflows (via Magic) and deploying across a global Citrix environment. The system now supports about 1,000 users (≈850 concurrent), manages more than eight million documents, handles 75% of correspondence as email, reduces physical storage and retrieval costs, speeds policy start‑up and claims processing, and provides compliant long‑term archival.
