Huntington Ingalls Industries - Customer Case Study

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), America’s largest military shipbuilder with about 36,000 employees, needed to modernize IT by eliminating silos, consolidating resources and accelerating provisioning. The goal was to build a private cloud to virtualize infrastructure, enable fast setup/teardown of production/test/development systems and be ready to leverage public cloud services once they met required security/compliance standards.

Using Micro Focus Cloud Service Automation, Operations Orchestration, Server Automation and Database & Middleware Automation plus Software Services consulting, HII automated and orchestrated full‑stack provisioning and established a self‑service developer portal. The result: provisioning time fell from six weeks to less than a day (often under an hour), a two‑week server design process was eliminated via standardized templates, resources are maintained and reclaimed more quickly in the private cloud, and HII gained the elasticity to rapidly stand up/tear down environments while delivering more capability in the same or smaller data‑center footprint.
