Healthways, a leading provider of specialized health and care support services, struggled with labor‑intensive utilization management (UM) processes: staff processed roughly 2,000 pages daily using multi‑function printers and manual scanning, creating three‑hour batch cycles, late reviewer delivery, poor tracking and difficulty meeting state rules and HIPAA reporting and retention requirements.
Healthways implemented OpenText RightFax, Document Server (Alchemy) and Workflow Server, .NET to capture faxes electronically, auto‑attach barcoded documents, route and index records, and trigger notifications. The integrated solution saves at least two man‑hours per batch, freed about 25% of UM staff for other work, sped turnaround, improved visibility and reporting, and strengthened compliance and customer service.
