Global travel company prepares for growth

A global travel technology company that connects hotels and distribution channels faced rapidly growing messaging volumes and complex partner formats. Their channel management platform needed to transmit availability, rates and bookings reliably, but anticipated two orders of magnitude traffic growth made it impractical to scale by replicating application servers and required them to eliminate monolithic, hand-coded processing and move translation, transformation and security functions to a new layer.

They deployed an SOA using IBM DataPower XI50 appliances combined with OpenText Contivo’s transformation design to offload mapping, routing and message handling into a componentized, scalable layer that supports binary and XML formats without relying on an ESB. The result was significantly increased system capacity at far lower cost than adding servers, faster, more flexible responses to business needs, and removal of technical barriers to integrating new trading partners — with plans to expand appliances and Contivo licenses as growth continues.
