A OpenText Case Study
Genesis Health System, a multi-campus provider with more than 665 licensed beds, 600 physicians and 5,000 staff serving a 10-county region, struggled with a heavily paper-based patient records process. Health Information Management staff handled roughly 23,000 faxed pages per month, spending hours locating charts, waiting at fax machines and maintaining around-the-clock manual processes that slowed physician access and increased costs.
Genesis deployed McKesson Horizon Patient Folder for electronic capture and OpenText RightFax for automated delivery, enabling physicians to view, edit and sign charts online and allowing staff to send and receive faxes directly into the electronic record. The change reduced HIM processing time by about 70%, consolidated faxing to a single shift, cut paper and supply costs, improved HIPAA auditing with tracked transmissions, and required minimal training and maintenance.
