A OpenText Case Study
Garland Independent School District, the second-largest district in Dallas County serving about 56,000 students, needed to continue free curbside meal service during the COVID-19 crisis while accurately tracking counts for USDA reimbursement. Traditional paper tally sheets and the lack of point-of-sale equipment made tracking slow, error-prone and unsafe amid social distancing and a reduced workforce.
PCS Revenue Control Systems quickly donated and deployed the Feed the Kids application built with OpenText LiquidOffice, converting paper tallies into an easy-to-use digital form accessible on phones, tablets or desktops and going live in three days. The solution eliminated paper handling, centralized data with built-in calculations, sped USDA reimbursement, improved accuracy and availability of information, supported 36,000 meals per day across 33 sites, tracked roughly 300,000 meals in the first weeks, and was adopted by 80+ districts.
