A major telecommunications company in EMEA needed to meet South Africa’s new PoPIA rules while adopting GDPR best practices. With many petabytes of customer and employee data locked in hundreds of applications and databases—and no central oversight—the organization required full data transparency, centralized consent management and the ability to respond quickly to data subject access requests (DSARs).
The company implemented an integrated Micro Focus solution (ControlPoint, CyberRes Voltage SDM and IDOL) to create a central data inventory, deduplicate and clean data, archive or purge where appropriate, and catalog everything into a searchable IDOL repository with dashboards. The outcome: dramatically faster DSAR responses, supported PoPIA/GDPR compliance, significant storage optimization, in‑house governance capability and an extensible, cost‑effective platform for future information governance.
