Case Study: Fraunhofer achieves rapid, disruption-free server migration with OpenText

Fraunhofer IWES and Fraunhofer IEE needed to migrate mission-critical email and file servers for 550 users across 13 locations as part of an organizational restructuring, with minimal disruption and a tight deadline. Fraunhofer had already been using OpenText™ GroupWise™ for email, instant messaging, and document management, and turned to OpenText and migration partner Login-IT for help.

OpenText’s PlateSpin Migration Factory was used to automate testing and move virtualized Linux-based file servers and GroupWise workloads from Xen to VMware in a virtual-to-virtual migration. The result was a fast, error-free cutover: 3 TB of GroupWise user data was migrated in just 15 minutes, up to 1.5 TB per server was moved, and services continued without interruption or lost emails.
