Filr delivers improved collaboration through seamless file access and sharing from any device or location

Regensburg University, a modern German campus university serving a diverse academic, medical and research community, faced widespread use of consumer file‑sharing tools (Dropbox, OneDrive) that did not meet its security and compliance needs. With about 55,000 network users requiring mobile and remote access—plus strict data rules due to healthcare partnerships—the university needed a policy‑compliant, secure way to replace ad‑hoc sharing.

The university deployed Micro Focus Filr to connect its existing file servers to any device, providing encrypted access to over 75 million files across 50 Net Folder servers with offline sync, Shibboleth federation for external collaborators, and VPN links to partner institutions. The solution delivered secure file sharing for 55,000 users, improved collaboration and high user acceptance, while reducing administration and meeting compliance requirements.
