A OpenText Case Study
SYSPRO, a nearly 40-year-old ERP provider for manufacturers and distributors with 15,000 customers and a 98% retention rate, relied on COBOL and Micro Focus Net Express but faced challenges modernizing its development environment. To attract new developers, support 64-bit platforms, and simplify customer installation and deployment, SYSPRO needed an industry-standard, agile-friendly toolset that made COBOL development more accessible.
By adopting Micro Focus Visual COBOL as their IDE and later for full development and deployment, SYSPRO compiled 10.5 million lines of code with only about 50 changes, stress-tested the system, and achieved roughly 30% improvements in application throughput and developer productivity. The move sped onboarding, enabled a hybrid agile model for up to 30% faster feature delivery, simplified installs, added dual-interface and full 64-bit support, and has received strong customer feedback.
