Dutch Refugee Council–Becoming a centre of expertise with ECM

The Dutch Refugee Council (Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland) is a national non‑profit that supports refugees and asylum seekers through legal representation and local integration, operating via 29 regional branches and some 8,000 local volunteers. Faced with heavy volumes of paper files, slow information sharing, limited office‑hour access and the goal of becoming the national centre for refugee affairs and legislation, the organization needed a more efficient, secure way to coordinate staff, volunteers and external partners.

They implemented the OpenText ECM Suite to create VluchtWeb, a web‑based intranet/extranet that centralizes documents, enforces access controls and is simple enough for volunteers and partners to use. The result was 24/7 access to critical information, reduced printing/faxing and helpdesk load, faster case support and cost savings—more than 75% of users reported improved ability to do their work—and VluchtWeb is now the Council’s hub for refugee expertise.
