A OpenText Case Study
Dubai Police, a force of over 15,000 in the UAE, needed to replace a slow, manual process of officers checking printed lists for wanted license plates. The challenge was to build an automated day/night ANPR system that could read diverse Arabic and English plate styles across seven Emirates, operate in moving traffic with up‑to‑the‑minute data to avoid false positives, and withstand extreme rooftop temperatures.
Zenith Gulf Security implemented an ANPR solution powered by Micro Focus IDOL, initially deployed in 2009 and upgraded in 2015 to a discreet 12‑camera light‑bar that reads plates up to three lanes away, shows images and voice alerts on dashboards, and updates patrol cars every three minutes. The system enabled real‑time response and push alerts, helped capture more than 2,700 individuals in the first 18 months, and has been expanded to include advanced video and image analytics for broader situational awareness.
