Data Protector meets challenge of reducing backup windows in diverse and strictly regulated environment

ATCORE Technology Ltd is a leading provider of high-performance reservation and e‑commerce platforms for the leisure travel industry, processing over £12 billion in bookings annually and handling more than 75% of holiday bookings in Europe. With two UK data centers supporting a diverse mix of physical and virtual environments, ATCORE faced growing backup windows, outdated backup software, and network throughput limits that caused individual backups to exceed 24 hours and impacted customer performance and regulatory compliance.

ATCORE upgraded Micro Focus Data Protector to enable server-side deduplication (achieving a 10:1 ratio), moved to agentless VMware backups using SAN transport, and deployed HPE StoreOnce in Azure to offload deduplication. These changes doubled then further increased backup speeds to 50–55 MB/s, cut backup completion times by about 50%, provided advanced reporting for visibility, and restored compliance and SLA-backed resilience with regular DR testing.
