A OpenText Case Study
Hatch is a global engineering, construction and operations consultancy that grew from 500 to 8,700 employees across 80 countries and needed a better way to connect dispersed specialists, appeal to Generation X/Y’s expectations for social tools, and capture critical institutional knowledge. The company’s challenge was to enable informal, cross‑functional collaboration while preserving governance and security.
Hatch leveraged its existing OpenText investment—deploying Communities of Practice and Content Server—to create an enterprise social platform. Launched with 1,000 licenses in 2007, the program grew from 12 to 73 communities and membership rose from a few users to several hundred within six months, improving global expert availability, collaboration, training development, and the capture of specialized knowledge (e.g., Bulk Materials Handling training and an electrowinning knowledge library).
