A OpenText Case Study
The City of Surrey, the twelfth largest city in Canada with about 472,000 residents, needed a website that reflected its growth and community strengths. The existing site did not communicate the city's value, had difficult navigation and ineffective search, and made it hard for citizens to find contacts and council information.
Working with OpenText (Web Site Management and Content Server) and partner Yellow Pencil, Surrey implemented a citizen-centric, task-based redesign driven by broad stakeholder engagement. The new site added rich media, social channels, Google Translate, mobile streaming of council meetings, an iPhone app and a kids site, and greatly improved search and content management. After the October 4, 2010 launch, visits rose to 777,997 and page views to 2,541,805 between Oct 4–Nov 1 (vs. 13,815 visits and 41,975 page views in the same period in 2009), enhancing transparency, two-way communication and mobile access.
