City Of Edmonton Uses Opentext Web Site Management To Enable Online Services And Dialogue Between Residents And Their Goverment

The City of Edmonton, a local government serving over one million residents, faced an outdated, department-driven website that was hard to navigate, cluttered (over 11,000 pages), lacked search and design flexibility, and required heavy IT involvement with hundreds of uncontrolled content authors. The site did not support modern Web 2.0 or rich media needs and produced a poor citizen experience and inefficient maintenance.

Edmonton implemented OpenText Web Site Management with Yellow Pencil as a hosted SaaS partner, rebuilt a user-centered architecture and workflows, automated content migration and cleanup (reducing pages to ~5,114), and trained authors on simple templates. The result was faster, author-friendly publishing, 99.9% uptime, consistent branding and improved search, readiness for social/rich media, and measurable gains—site hits rose 19% year-over-year and transit tool usage increased ~30%.
