A OpenText Case Study
BMO Harris Bank, a $195 billion commercial bank with more than 600 branches, faced rising costs and regulatory complexity after multiple mergers left hundreds of legacy applications running in read‑only mode to preserve long‑term data. To reduce maintenance overhead and meet strict 7–40 year retention rules, the bank launched a data retention and decommissioning (DRD) program aimed at extracting, centralizing and retaining legacy data in a compliant, future‑proof format.
BMO Harris selected OpenText InfoArchive with partner Flatirons Digital Innovations to archive structured and unstructured data, provide full audit trails and reproduce legacy reports for easy access. The project archived 4.3 TB, enabled decommissioning of 16 applications, delivered a three‑month implementation with a 12‑month payback, and saved roughly $5 million per year (more than $10 million overall) while maintaining regulatory compliance.
