Big Data Analytics at the heart of Avito

Avito, Russia’s leading classifieds marketplace, needed to collect and analyze massive, fast-moving data from 26 internal and external sources—including up to a billion daily clickstream events—but its existing PostgreSQL- and Excel-based tools couldn’t handle the scale or complexity. After forming a BI unit in 2013, the company sought a highly scalable, SQL-capable analytics platform on standard x86 servers to monetize data and support pricing, advertising, moderation and product experiments.

Avito selected and deployed Vertica (with MongoDB caching for clickstream), grew the cluster to meet demand and integrated all new business modules into the BI system. The platform now underpins pricing optimization, ad and CRM analytics, moderation and investor reporting, democratizes data access, accelerates releases and has turned corporate data into a revenue-generating asset—becoming central to decision-making and company growth.
