A OpenText Case Study
Belgian Railways, headquartered in Brussels with more than 21,000 employees serving over 200 million passengers annually, faced severe document overload—millions of invoices, technical drawings and personnel files kept across disparate systems and paper. This fragmented information hindered maintenance efficiency, punctuality and safety, and made meeting European compliance and traceability requirements for rolling stock records difficult.
To solve this, Belgian Railways deployed OpenText Extended ECM for SAP Solutions tightly integrated with their SAP ERP to centralize unstructured content into business processes. The platform delivered faster, device-independent access and full auditability, cut information costs (targeted savings ~€3M/year), brought ~2.5 million documents online in year one (projected >7.5M in five years) and now supports roughly 9,000 users with plans to expand and enable mobile access for drivers.
