BBVA Bancomer, one of Mexico’s leading banks, needed to move core mainframe transactions to the web quickly and reliably to stay competitive. A prior proprietary effort was slow, costly and unable to scale; the bank required a standards‑based, zero‑footprint browser solution that would integrate front and back‑office systems, fully synchronize with mainframe data, and support hundreds of thousands of users without client downloads.
Using Micro Focus Rumba (Rumba ODK and Rumba Management Server) and ActiveX Express, the team converted green‑screen applications to HTML on‑the‑fly, deployed via IIS with SSL and a five‑server architecture and more than 200 ASP pages to balance load. The CLIC portal launched in under six months, delivers 100% uptime, supports 200,000+ users with ~14,000 new signups per month, paid back development costs in weeks, and expanded services, revenues, and customer satisfaction.
