LABORAL Kutxa is a Spanish retail bank serving 1.1 million clients that needed to modernize a 30+-year Fujitsu mainframe to meet regulator demands and customer expectations for multi‑channel banking. Facing declining system performance, rising maintenance costs, vendor lock‑in and a shortage of mainframe skills, the bank sought a secure, flexible path to digital transformation without disrupting critical operations.
LABORAL Kutxa partnered with Micro Focus, HPE and Deloitte to migrate to an open systems environment using Micro Focus Enterprise Server and Enterprise Developer, validating the platform with nightly transaction comparisons before a planned “big‑bang” cutover. The move delivered ~80% improvements in overall system performance and operational cost savings, cut key batch jobs from hours to minutes, sped up customer homepages, strengthened disaster recovery and enabled rapid remote working and further innovation—savings the bank is reinvesting in cybersecurity and analytics.
