Bankart, a Slovenian payment processor that handles about 25 million card transactions per month across Slovenia and neighboring countries, faced strict PCI DSS requirements to encrypt data at rest. Its payment stack runs on ACI BASE24 on NonStop servers, but BASE24 has no native encryption, so Bankart needed volume-level encryption and secure centralized key management for roughly 1 TB of production data and its backup environment.

Bankart deployed Micro Focus Enterprise Secure Key Manager (ESKM) alongside NonStop volume-level encryption—installing ESKM appliances for production and test servers—to automatically generate and centrally manage 88 disk keys, regenerate keys for backups (six per day), and perform daily key backups. The implementation delivered PCI-compliant protection, reduced risk with frequent automated backups and key rotation, enabled policy-based replication/failover and audit-ready logs, and minimized day-to-day administration for IT.
